Paralegal

Wilkie Paralegal Position

The Wilkie Law Group has an opening available for an experienced paralegal to work in its Jacksonville, NC office. Our law firm has an established, respected, and fast-paced litigation practice including civil, criminal, and military representation. Applicants should enjoy working with clients and be prepared and able to work on a variety of cases, ranging from civil DVPO, criminal misdemeanor and felony cases including murder trials. The paralegal will work under the direction of the lead attorney and a senior paralegal.

Required Experience:

  • Completion of an approved paralegal program and minimum two (2) years’ experience as a paralegal, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience in a field that develops the skills required for the functions and responsibilities of the position.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with prospective clients seeking to hire in both private criminal and military representation.
  • Manage the legal calendar ensuring correct court documents are filed, clients are notified, and scheduling changes as needed.
  • Analyze records and files and makes recommendations as to the disposition of files.
  • Draft legal documents, entries of appearance, formal discovery requests, notices, and motions.
  • Compile and organize trial notebooks, exhibits, and files and coordinate witness scheduling.
  • Perform related duties which may not be specifically included within this position description, but which are consistent with the general level of the job and the responsibilities described.

Essential Elements:

  • Ability to concentrate on a task and meet deadlines, despite interruptions and competing priorities and demands.
  • Familiarity with clerical and administrative tasks in a legal setting and knowledge of legal terminology and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to work with a diverse range of clients.
  • Experience working in a confidential environment and handling sensitive information.
  • Ability to proactively solve problems and identify solutions for routine and unpredictable challenges.
  • Intermediate to advanced technical skills in using a variety of software and systems (Microsoft Office Suite, Clio legal software, video encryption, etc.).
